OH&S Committee Training
Eastern Safety Services offer OH&S Committees and WHSR/Ds training on an ongoing and upon request basis. This course is intended for new members of Occupational Health and Safety Committees as defined under the Workplace Health and Safety Regulations.
OH&S Committees and WHSR/Ds play a vital role in ensuring a healthy and safe workplace for everyone. These individuals help identify and address health and safety issues in the workplace and help to prevent incidents before they happen. Therefore, it is important that they receive training so that they are aware of their responsibilities and stay current with legislation.
On July 1, 2015, Workplace NL introduced new certification training for OH&S Committees and Workers Health and Safety Representatives / Designates (WHSR/Ds), including:
- Updated, two-day training program
- One course for both OH&S Committees and WHSR/Ds
- New requirement to recertify every three years
If you have completed OH&S Committee training prior to July 1, 2015, you have until June 30, 2018 to re-certify.
Effective July 1, 2015, there is now one program for OH&S Committee and WHSR/Ds with a minimum of two-days (14-hours) of classroom time. There is a new Participant’s Manual and an interactive component, where you will practice what you’ve learned in a mock OH&S Committee meeting.
Training must be renewed every three (3) years
Committees/Representatives/Designates must renew their OH&S Committee training every three (3) years from the date of their certification. This is a reasonable timeframe in order to stay current with legislation and trends in health and safety.
Eastern Safety Services are conducting this training which is available province-wide. Please call our office at 709-757-7111 for more information or to book a class.
