Phlebotomy Course Overview
The Phlebotomy Micro-Credential Course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of phlebotomy techniques and procedures as they relate to patient care. This short, specialized training program is designed to equip students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for practicing as a phlebotomist.
This program is for you, if: you obtained your training outside of Canada, or do not have any medical background but would want to shift to the health industry.
Duration & Schedule
- Course Length:
- Blended Online: 27 hours online / self-paced training, 8-12 hours in-person practical class at our St. John’s location.
- In Class: 2 days in-person practical class at our St. John’s location.
- Typical Hours: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM in- class. (Subject to change)
- Practicum Details:
- Practicum course students practice the blood collection & handling skills learned in theory class
- Practice on simulation arms (mandatory) and live persons (based on volunteers availability)
- Receive instruction on how to o prepare the blood collection site
- Choose the proper collection tools
- Post-puncture care, processing and management of collected samples
- Three locations to choose from for your Practicum.

In our Phlebotomy Course, you will:
- Understand the responsibilities and ethical standards of a professional phlebotomy technician.
- Master anatomy, physiology, and venous access fundamentals.
- Apply infection control, aseptic technique, and proper handling of sharps waste.
- Learn how to perform safe and accurate venipuncture and capillary draws.

Exam Details
Our certificate prepares you for professional phlebotomy certification in Newfoundland and Labrador through focused training, study resources, and hands-on practice. While the CPTG exam is taken separately at approved centers, graduates are fully equipped to succeed.
Note: CPTG exam fees (approx. C$210 + HST) and annual membership (C$129, with a 15% graduate discount) are not included in tuition.
