Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Build Confidence. Save Lives. Support Mental Wellness.

We are proud to offer the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, developed and certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). Starting in July, this nationally recognized training will be available to both the general public and private sector clients.

MHFA is the mental health equivalent of physical first aid—it teaches participants how to provide support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem, developing a mental health crisis, or worsening of a mental health condition.

Course Overview

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a 2-day course that teaches you how to help someone experiencing a mental health issue. Like physical first aid, it is the intervention given until appropriate professional treatment is obtained or until the particular crisis is addressed. The knowledge gained helps give responders the confidence to interact effectively with someone whose mental wellbeing has declined.

The course fee includes a participant manual, as well as other resources highlighted during the session. A certificate is given to each individual upon successful completion of this course.  Class would run 09:00 – 4:00 with a mid-morning and a mid-afternoon break, for which refreshments are provided.

This evidence-based training equips you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to:

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems
  • Respond to someone in distress with practical support
  • Reduce stigma and promote recovery
  • Offer initial help until appropriate professional support is available
  • Intervene in crisis situations (e.g., suicidal behaviour, panic attacks, or substance use)
